Insight Horn Group is a livestock supplier of Cattle, Sheep and Camels, bred in Somaliland. 

Breed of Cattle:

The Zebu cattle of Somaliland mainly belong to a group designated as a Small Zebu of Somaliland or Shorthorn (thoracic-humped) Zebu. Cattle from Somaliland are appreciated in Yemen, Oman and the United Arab Emirates markets of the Middle East counties.

Gender and age:

Both male (bulls) and female (cows) cattle are available. Cattle can be segmented by certain ages as desired; in months or years. Matured males are 6-8 years old (see photo uploads) and they considered grade one as per the grading system ).

Castrated:

Sometimes males (bulls) are castrated. 

Weight:

Live weight between 300-350kg and are considered grade one as per the grading system.

Breed of Sheep:

The blackhead Persian sheep is found in Somaliland which is a fat-ramped and pollen breed. Although some males may have horns, the mature animal weight of these animals is generally in the range of 30-45 kilograms according to age and health status. Mature rams age 3-4 years old and are considered as grade one. The attached pictorial guide describes the traits of animals for export.

Breed of Goat:

The goats often found in Somaliland are short-eared goats which are mainly white, although mixed colours such as black and brown also occur. There is also Arab type which is characterized by long hairs. Mature males aged 3-4 years are considered as grade one. Breed of Camel:

Camels in Somaliland are all one-humped (Camelus Dromedarius). Two types of camels exist in Somaliland and are distributed according to their habitat. The first one is called a hill or mountain type, thus camels of this type are small, compact, muscular, hairy with hard foot soles suited to the rocky environment of Gollis range. The second type is the plain type of camel which live in flat areas and are large with less hair and softer foot soles than the one found in rocky areas. Its price is between $400-$1000 according to age. 

Mature male camels age between 8-13 years old are considered grade one as per their grading systems.

Vaccination reports and local veterinary protocols and paperwork for export:

  • Cattle for export is vaccinated against Foot and mouth disease (FMD)
  • Sheep and goat for export are vaccinated against sheep and goat pox, PPR and CCPP for goats.
  • There is a quarantine system
  • Which disease to vaccinate depends on the requirements of the importing countries
  • Animals for export are inspected/tested for certain diseases like Brucellosis, FMD, RVF, sheep and goat pox, LSD, CBPP, camelpox, ORF, etc.
  • There is a certification system in place that starts from the farm level to the final exit.

Means of transportation:

Animals are transported in suitable crates. which are very strong to hold the animals and not give way during transportation and those crates have been tested on previous, small quantity deliveries. Almost all livestock shipments are by sea on specially designed and outfitted livestock vessels. Packing list for sea and air as they need to maximize but not compromise animal welfare. We take pride in making sure that livestock is treated humanely because most of our customers are concerned that they are processed in a Halal manner. We are also concerned about their welfare on the journey.

The typical length of the journey to GCC countries is less than one week via ship. To most of those states, the voyage is less than 3 days. 

For air transport, pending on the quantity can be delivered via charter. and we have a partnership relationship with a charter cargo airline in the region.
